The FIFA World Cup, also known as Football World Cup, is an international association football competition contested by the members of the football’s global governing body FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) hence the name FIFA World Cup. The tournament is held every four years since the inaugural tournament in 1930. There was no tournament between 1942 and 1946 due to World War 2.
First FIFA World Cup
The first ever Football World Cup was held at Uruguay in 1930. Total of Thirteen teams participated in that tournament including seven from South America, four from Europe, and two from North America. Due to the difficulty of traveling to South America, some European teams choose not to participate. The World Cup Host Uruguay won this tournament to became first ever world champions.
Most FIFA World Cup Wins
So far, there are 20 World Cup tournaments have been conducted. Brazil holds the record for most FIFA World Cup wins, they won a record five times. Brazil also holds the record of being the only team to participate in every tournament. The other World Cup winners are Germany and Italy, they both won the title 4 times each. Argentina, France and Uruguay (first tournament) with two titles each. And Spain, and England have won the title one time each.

World Cup Wins by Confederation
Member nations from UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) have won the title 12 times. While member nations from CONMEBOL, the governing body for South American teams, have won the title 9 times.
